Any animal can suffer from arthritis, which is basically inflammation of a joint. It is more common in older animals and also larger breeds. Overweight animals are also more prone to the disease.

Signs can vary from obvious discomfort and/or pain to just being a little bit slower on walks or less agile.

There are several products available to treat the problem and the best way to determine which is best for your pet is to arrange an appointment. At this time the vet can decide which products would suit your pet best, as well as deciding whether any further tests such as X rays or blood tests would help determine the correct course of treatment.

Not all animals suffering from arthritis need pain killers such as Metacam or other non-steroidal drugs and there are a variety of alternatives that we can use.
